Whatever happened to VoicePrint logins?

How come Apple decided to remove this feature from their OS ?

Is there any other way of achieving this?

10 print "it was lame"
20 goto 10

The real reason was, it wasn't secure. Even with OS X, I could just grab your HD and walk out of the room if I was a evil hacker.

Plug it into my system and I have your files.

In comes file vault.

Voice verification was not good security. Maybe someday there will be a good way to use it. But for now Apple made a wise security decision by not allowing it in OS X. Apple wants desperately to have OS X be loved by the UNIX geeks. I'm sure they would have crucified Apple in the security department for allowing this feature. Besides you can use a smartcard if you want security. Voiceprint was really only a cool "show off" feature. Who wants to hear a coworker talk to their computer everytime they step away from their desk.

Think about it..

WTF? Different technologies dude. Voiceprint was a security/password authentication mechanism (you could write one for the as an authentication mechanism on Mac OS X if you wanted to), not a filesystem protection scheme. You'd use a voiceprint as a password to a FileVault archive, not as a replacement for FileVault...
