I've just gotten panther recently...

When i first ran activity monitor, i loved it. Finally, i didn't need the terminal to quit apps.

Then the second time i ran it, it bounced in the dock twice, then quit. And now it wont go beyond that stage.

I miss my activity monitor - does anyone know how i can fix this problem?

Have you checked the console to see what (if any) error messages are being displayed?

Activity Monitor has been replaced by another tool in Panther. Rather, it's functionality has been added to a general system info tool.

I forget the name because I haven't jumped the jaguar boat just yet.

Yes, it's called "Activity Monitor".

In Jaguar, it was called "Process Viewer".

To the original poster:

Have you repaired permissions on your hard drive using Disk Utility?

Have you tried moving the Activity Monitor preference file out of ~/Library/Preferences and re-launching the program? It may just be a corrupt preference file.

And you're sure you have a window open for it?

You see, if you close the window, then quit, then relaunch, the window remains closed (!)

You get it back with Monitor : Show activity viewer, or CMD-1 for short.

Silly bug,

J
