is out, for panther.

works!
now i can stop hitting the enter key and waiting for command functions to happen...

EDIT!
the version at versiontracker is a "hijack", not the official release.

the developer will have the real app soon...

Its a fork, done by someone who didn't notify or even talk to any of the original authors. That's legal under the license (GPL), but lacking in common politeness at best.

Now I've got an Inbox of problem reports about a release of uControl I didn't have any notice of (and apparently wasn't tested very well).

Plus he asking $5 in donations. Note that uControl never asked for donations before (too many contributors to be fair). The folks who wrote the majority of the code in question receive nothing.

Folks if this one doesn't work for you don't send me mail. I don't care.

FWIW, I've long since graduated to SideTrack for my scrolling needs, but I'd still love the key-remapping of uControl back.

Any word on when we can look forward to an "official" release?

Actually I tried Sidetrack before and still decided uControl is best: the scrolling area is always either too small, or too big for me. Using fn (or other keys) to activate scrolling is a much better idea, IMHO.

I hope the real uControl guys aren't going to give up on uControl because of this. 'Cause the new author didn't implement fn-key remapping, and I sure as hell want that back. Plus, the whole situation just doesn't sit well with me. I'd rather use the real thing.

a panther-compliant version is coming soon (and it works great).

Shane's put up 1.3.7 now. Its not as complete as I might have liked but its there and its official (not the fork).

There will probably still need to be some updates to uControl for Panther with FileVault and Fast User Switching, I'm going to try to do those when I fix those same issues in SideTrack (right now I'm swamped at the real job).

No enter-to-fn remapping? Awwww.

Still, any release is better than no release. Thanks guys.

Thank you lord! I've been looking for software to do this since I first got onto Panther and no one mentioned. Now I've just gotta figure out how to make that damn app switcher to where it's not the size of the whole frickin' monitor.

What I used to use uControl for- on my laptop, I would hold down the function key, and then sliding my finger up and down, or left and right on the trackpad would scroll documents (like the scrollwheel on most mice). What I now use side track for: I set the right 1/2" of my track pad to be for scrolling up and down. Thus when I want to scroll a document, I just move my finger to the right side of the track pad, and it scrolls. Pretty nifty.

Yup.. the scroll wheel on an attached mouse works just fine. It definitely comes in handy when you forget/dont have enough room for the mouse.

My ibook with panther is complete again! I totally prefer the uControl way of scrolling over the Sidetrack way. And I now have my enter->ctrl again for one-hand ctrl-clicks! Thanks guys!!!

Is this a slight bug or is it a problem on my ibook? I can't get uControl to load at start up with any combinations of checking Load at Startup and/or Configure at Login.

When I boot up (not just logout/in), uControl doesn't work until I manually go the system preference and click on uControl. Then it works fine.

When I have the "Configure at Login" checked, it adds ucontrolhelper in my startup items and I see the ucontrol icon appear briefly in the dock when I log in, but it still doesn't activate automatically.

Any ideas? It's not a big deal though. Just happy to have uControl again!

are u running panther, and uControl 1.3.7??

i would run the uninstaller, then reinstall ucontrol. again, make sure it's the right version..!

It's panther + uControl 1.3.7 from http://gnufoo.org/ucontrol/ucontrol.html
I tried your suggestion with the uninstaller and reinstalled uControl but saw no difference.

But I realized it's not a big deal since I usually put my system to sleep and uControl works fine once it's activated and that's all that matters. So I'm happy. Thanks!

I've encountered a slightly incovenient problem - I have an external USB keyboard (PC) attached at work, and whenever I do that, the "Real function keys" setting in uControl would be unchecked - so I have to go into the preferences to re-activate it again.

Not a biggie tho - just want to report the problem.

(it's uControl 1.3.7 on Panther)

Ok in the subsequent observations, I noticed that the problem occurred only when my PB sleeps and wakes up - upon that point the "Real function keys" setting would be lost, regardless whether I had attached a second keyboard or not.

Hope this helps identifying the problem.

The sleep problem is being worked on... As followers of this thread are no doubt aware, 1.3.7 was a bit rushed due to the unfortunate stuff surrounding the fork.

All I can say is sorry, I had hoped the other fixes (Fast User Switching, which is related to the sleep problem as well) would make it in, but things got bumped to get it out the door.
