When I had Jaguar, I had a great setup with Samba to allow me to mount up my documents folder from any PC on my university's network, but Pather has posed a problem. The Samba Sharing package I was using doesn't work with Panther (as stated by the author of the package). I have forgotten why I never used the Mac OS X standard Windows File Sharing in the first place, but I tried it in panther after trashing the old Samba Sharing pref panel and apps.
The current status is that when I enter my computer's address in Windows, my computer is mounted and it shows the one folder I am sharing, called Documents. When I try to login, it keeps giving me the login dialog, never letting me in when i put in my short username and password. I noticed that the Accounts preference panel has nothing about "allow this user to login from windows". Anyone have any success using Windows File Sharing in Panther? Thanks

I had the same problem...Jag was much easier at this...I enabled all the shares and enabled and disabled firewall settings and got the login box finally after 20 min of trying and after 45 min I just gave up. Jag was 2 clicks and boom I logged in. I did an archive and install so some junk has to be floating around....I will never do Archive and install EVER again.

No problems here. I checked windows sharing from the Sharing Preference pane and typed in the address it gave me into IE6 in Windows 2000 professional. I typed in my username and password and up popped my Home directory. That's how I transfered 15gb of Music to my PC. Transferring the files the other way (using the Mac) created too many errors.
