In fact my crashes this week are much more in number than what I had the last 2 years!!!
It usually crashes after I wake my computer from sleep mode. At first I thought that it was iTunes cause sometimes I live iTunes open when my computer goes to sleep. But after getting in the habbit of quiting iTunes before sleep mode I just don't know what causing it.
And to be honest I don't see much of a speed improvement as other people see. So maybe something was wrongly installed in the first place???
At least my firewire drive works!!!
The computer that has the panther crashing treatment is a powerbook 667DVI with 512MB of memory.

try creating a new user account. if the problem goes away, copy your data (but no preferences) to the new account. if the problem continues, you may need to re-install the OS.

I get the exact same problem. I think it's caused by an external USB floppy drive - since disconnecting it, I haven't noticed any more of the crashes. You might want to try unplugging any external USB devices you have.

When this happens to me, I notice that it seems to be actually kernel panicking, although I don't see the kernel panic screen since it never even gets far enough to start sending video to my monitor again after I wake it from sleep. The reason I know it is panicking is that it is writing the panic.log in /Library/Logs/CrashReporter. You might want to see if you have the panic.log there, and send it to Apple if so, to help them fix the problem. Send them an Apple System Profiler report along with it so that your USB devices are listed.

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!
