What happened to the version of chess with no gray background?

What happened to to secure delete x amount of times pass? How many does it default to now?

I can't find any lock screen menu item that people talk about - where is it?

If you have fast user switching on, and have 10.3 log out after x amount of time, does it log out completley, or can you put your pass in, and cotinue with all your open apps?

Thanks!

Lock screen:

You can set the screensaver to require a password. Can't remember if this is in "Security", "Accounts", or "Desktop & Screen Effects" preference pane.

You can also use the fast user switching menu to go to the login screen.

This effectively blocks your account, but keeps it running in the background.

I'm curious about the "secure delete" too. How secure 5x? or 35x? Maybe the feds stepped in and made them tone it down so the terrorists and child pr0n purveyors could still have their hard-drives scoured by the FBI? I was wondering about the legality issues with this, myself-- export laws, and what not.

Swing and a miss…

The 'lock screen' menu item…

Keychain Access app, "Show Status in Menu Bar".

well, it looks like the Secure Delete command uses the srm tool to do its thing, which defaults to 35 passes.

http://srm.sourceforge.net

I don't think there'd be export issues, simply because it's not encrypting anything - just writing useless data over 'real' data.
