can someone walk me through completely removing fink from my system?

I screwed something up and now x11 doesn't run.

I want to install kde like I had it under jag.

sudo rm -rf /sw/
sudo rm -rf /usr/X11R6 /etc/X11 /Applications/XDarwin.app
delete the line it added to your ~/.cshrc

then you'll be free from fink

(I've had to do this twice in the last week)

oh, and I tried to install KDE, but it must have a circular reference or something, because it was still compiling 12 hours later

Thanks... Followed your directions and then reinstalled X11. Now X11 launches w/out a problem.

Many thanks.

If anyone has had success installing KDE I'd love to get a roadmap with the gotchas mapped out (I'm going to try again tonight).

Depending on the latest improvements to the fink distro, you may need to re-build qt3. When kde launches, turn off icons on desktop in Settings->Control Center->Desktop->Behavior. Binaries are still catching up, so source installs are the way to go.

To be able to access the windows buttons, etc you may need to select Minimize from the X11 Window menu to "remove" the transparent icons layer until you make the Desktop Behavior settings.
