ok. something weird is going on my machine (G4 400Mhz, 768Mb RAM)
I just tried to make a clean Panther install. The first CD just goes through fine, then it tells me to reboot the machine and once it does, it starts to boot (grey screen w. apple logo and circle progress) then screen background goes blue (as with the first install CD bg. color) and inmediately black. The no response. No HD sound. No CD spinning. DEAD.

I've tried several times. Same results.
Disconnecte all external drives or peripherals. Same results.

¿?
Has someone encountered this problem. I just can't find any similar reports anywhere...

A friend of mine in school had a similar problem and it was b/c he had a bad disk. For him it was the first CD so he couldn't do anything it just spun around but never loaded. I gave him my CD and everything worked fine. My suggestion: find a new CD and try that.

Problem Solved!!!

It finally turned out to be some problem with the PRAM... so i erased it (command+shift+P+R) and it continued with the installation without a glitch.

I was wrong. It wasn't the PRAM. I was just starting the system in safe mode. Finally it had something to do with the graphic card. I replaced the GeForce 2MX with an old ATI and now works fine. (strange since the GeForce came from another G4 ¿¿??)

anyway, i'll survive with the ATI.
