I just installed Panther on my iMac DV 500 (after updating the firmware) Now when I boot nothing happens! I seem to be stuck @ the grey Apple logo. Putting my ear up the the machine reveals that my HD seems to not be spinning.

Has anyone had problems like this?

Is anyone aware of a solution?

P.S. I already pulled 3rd party ram, but that did not help

What sort of install did you do?

I encountered a similar problem where an upgrade installation was FUBARed and the machine could not boot beyond the grey screen.

We were able to salvage data by booting into firewire disk mode, backing the data up to another Mac, and then doing a clean install of the system and copying the data back over.

It would probably be easer to try to boot from CD and do an Archive and Install.

First try to repair the disk.

Thanx gang. I give it (archive & install) a shot. I am not too worried as I have never had a problem with a Mac that I could not fix. I post my results here when I get a chance to try them out. I have a tone of math to do ;-(
