At boot time, does jaguar list the current hardware configuration [ie: installed ram, hard drives, os, etc] in any of it's log files?

Sounds like you want to use System Profiler. Go to the Apple menu and choose "About This Mac". Then click the "More Info" button in the about window.

give some of these open firmware commands a try.

Actually what I am trying to do is track hardware changes between reboots. I am hoping that OS X save a log of what hardware it finds at boot time some where. Any ideas?
