Every deselected window has this strange line under it...I thought it was just Cocoa but Carbon does it also....very strange. Upgrade did it so I did a Archive and Install and still get it...anyone else?

Edit - added arrow to show line

That's the standard shadow for background windows. What's the problem?

I get the same line under my desktop fonts in Panther but when I select a folder on the desktop the line goes away. shadowing is nice but not necessary.

He's talking about the subtle line underneath, not the shadow. Look more carefully at the image and you'll see it. It's very faint.

Oh. Now I see that very faint line. Want to bet it's an artifact of something that the programmers simply overlooked? It's so subtle.

I already logged a bug on this but send feedback anyway, it's a stupid problem that they can easily fix.

This is a known bug and has been reported a couple of times. It has been around for some time know but it seems fixing it is more difficult than we think.

Or it's less important than you think.

Not every bug gets fixed. Some are deliberately left unfixed, since there are more important ones out there.

This has been around far too long and really needs to be fixed. Everybody who is annoyed by this please send Apple feedback or log a bug if you are a developer.

This has really bothered me for quite a while, but what can you do? I've sent Apple feedback on this twice so far. Maybe they'll fix it for 10.3.4. If it's still there by 10.4, someone has to be fired.

If it helps, I've noticed that I don't get that problem on my Pismo (ATI Rage 128) but I do see it on my iBook (ATI Radeon).

In reporting the bug, I recommend adding a screenshot that shows why the bug should be fixed. If I were a developer looking at the screenshot from the first post, I'd probably ignore the report because the line's virtually invisible (at least on my LCDs) and there are far bigger fish to fry. A better screenshot coupled with a bug report would go a long way towards helping the cause.

Perhaps webscreamer could post a shot of how the bug causes problems with his photoshop palettes?

Yep. My bug included a screenshot of two windows overlapping (the dark line multiplies with each overlap) as well as a zoomed in shot of the 3 lines of pixels that need fixing and a "should look like this" shot I made in Photoshop. Very clear. Still not fixed.

Sometimes it seems that Apple doesn't give a crap about UI bugs.
