This is strange because Panther installed fine on my G5. I wanted to use these disks to install Panther on my Tibook, but ran into the above error. Install disk 1 installed fine, but disk 2 almost immediately gives the error. Does anyone know what could be wrong? Is it possible the disk is bad already?

Happened to me too. The combo drive on my 2002 iBook sometimes freaks out and won't spin & mount the drive. Happened only with dvd's so far and guess what, first time with the 2nd cd of Panther also.

Run again the installer and you may be fine. Boot from the first cd with key "c" pressed.
