Found a problem that seems to be new with 10.3 (archive/install from 10.2.8)
Its not a step-by-step reproducible problem, but has locked up my machine a good 6-7 times over the past few days. I have run DiskUtility Repair, and repaired permissions, with no effect.
Ok, there are newer news-readers, but I've been using trn for many many years, and still do. I've downloaded and compiled trn-4.0-test76. Had it working for quite a long time, and use it sparingly for occassional news reading.
EDIT: I have re-built with gcc 3.3 just in case, but still locks up.
With an upcoming trip, I wanted to get some comedy clips for my iPod, and went to alt.binaries.sounds.mp3.comedy to see what I could find.
I never had this problem pre-10.3, but now, maybe every 5th time, if I have say, 50-60 articles selected, and am saving to a file (for post-processing), I'll see the article saving count ticking off, and then EVERYTHING (except the mouse) will lock up. No clock, no application switching, and even CMD-option-ESC fails to respond. I've left it for ~10 minutes and finally gave up and hit the reboot button on my G4/800 box. Usually I have the article-saving window backgrounded and am doing something else... the "else" doesn't seem to matter what (editting with vim in the other window, or surfing with Mozilla... its locked up with both)
I'm less concerned with trn failing, than with the fact that this locks my machine up so completely.
I find no relevant logs in ~Library/Logs/CrashReporter, nor in the system.log.
system.log simply shows a "missing" time period (I have a fetchmail process running on 1 minute interval with cron that puts an entry into the syslog, so cron is failing during this time period also, with no entries during the locked up minutes).
Ideas?
Thanks,
Mike
