Linking two macs over Firewire??

Hey,
I have a question is it possible to network two computers together so I can quickly transfer files over firewire? I have used target disk mode but i would like to do it when both computers are running normally? I heard of an application called IP over firewire which i cant find, would that do the job?

Search "Using IP over FireWire" through your Mac Help. They have a detail description.

Actually, IP over Firewire is now a part of 10.3. All you have to do is set it up as another interface in the networking panel.
