Hi All,
I've been using panther for about 2wks on my G5 and really like it. Last night I decided to move some of my old fonts to the new system and used the font book application to add my fonts. Everything seemed go smoothly until I'd added probably too many fonts and Font Book crashed, then sherlock crashed and PGP and Safari. MS Word doesn't work either. I checked my font library and I had about 3600 fonts in my user font library. Too many? How do I get back to square one? What fonts do I need in my library and can I just move them maually? Besides the applications crashing my system has some other strange behaviours. I've tried to repair permissions and restart. What should I do now?

Thanks!
Eric

Simply move all the fonts out of your ~/Library/Fonts folder to another location. You don't strictly need ANY fonts in your User fonts folder. Any fonts added here are "bonus" fonts - the essential system fonts are located in /System/Library/Fonts.

It sounds like you have a corrupted font or two. There are apps to check for corruption although I don't know there names offhand - try searching MacUpdate/Versiontracker. There was also another thread here about Font Book and crashing earlier last week - try searching for it.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I also just discovered that iView MediaPro can catalog and manage fonts which is cool since I already have that.

The problem with font book is you can't see a preview of a font until you add it.

Is there a limit to how many fonts one can have in their font book/ library?
