After running 10.3 for a good while and having no problems, my iBook has suddenly lost the ability to connect over Ethernet. The Network panel doesn't even list it in the Network Status area. If I go to it from the drop-down menu, everything appears fine, but it's not getting an IP from the DHCP server, which it was before.
Several restarts have not solved the problem. Anybody else seen anything like this? Airport still works, and I haven't tried the modem.

Assuming you didn't change any settings since it last worked, etc: Have you tried a different cable? Or another computer using that same cable? Is everything plugged in OK? Sometimes it can be something stupid like that.
Also, in Network preferences, choose "Network Port Configurations" from the "Show" pulldown menu and make sure Ethernet is checked.

Yeah, that's the weird thing.... even with its "Show" box checked, it still doesn't show up in the Network Status area, even with a red circle.... it's simply not there.
I haven't tried different cables, etc., yet, but that same cable and port work with other computers, and the fact that it's not showing up in Network Status makes me think something more fishy is a-foot.
Is there possibly any command-line magic to be worked here?

try creating a "new location" with all your applicable settings in the network prefpane and see if that one works.

I am hekping a friend in Japan right now...
Same problem, brand new PB 15", fresh clean install of 10.3.
The mac connected once before the reinstall and then stopped working.
He reinstalled and now no more ethernet in the network pref pane, even though it is checked in the "network port config"
Is that a 10.3 related bug ?
Does 10.3.2 corrects this ?
Thanks for your help...
