...so that the active window is set by mouse location, not by click?

"virtual Desktop" tried to implement something like this as a extra feature but apparently could only get it to work by having the windows jump to the number 1 position on rollOver, which is trés annoying, if you try it.

I only want the window to become the active window, not jump to number 1 position.

What use is this you ask? thie first thing that comes to mind is that it make it much easier and quicker to work with the terminal. It's one of those 'hard to explain until you've tried it and become accustomed to it' thangs.

You mean "focus follows mouse"... I think that there is something around that does this. Just though I would give you the correct terminology - it may help you find what you are looking for

Sorry I can't help more.

Mac windows aren't like X windows. They belong to applications. You cannot give focus to a window not belonging to the current application.

If the focus followed the mouse, you would constantly have the menu bar switching along with the other windows of that app.

It would drive me insane. But, to each his own.

I guess I was thinking that new implementation of the linux/sgi thing might be in order.

I agree - constantly switching foremost apps dependant on where the mouse was located: Bad Idea. But I would love to be able to roll over a window and paste into it without having to click to make it active. Examples of places this would be useful are pasting info into the terminal or into photoshop.

So I guess what I want is a kind of an "attention follows mouse" rather than "focus follows mouse". :-)
