I am running Suitcase X1 and just upgraded to Panther.
I can no longer run Suitcase to manage my fonts without the machine locking up, kernel panicing, or glitching out until it is frozen solid.
I trashed the suitcase prefs, made sure I had no other third party stuff running(as far as I can see in the activity monitor), and then re added my fonts to Suitcase. after a while it began to flake out again, not shutting down, glitching, freezing. I have never had the system act so unstable...I am pretty sure it is Suitcase, but I have not heard any other similar reports, could it be something else?
Font Book really does suck. I don't know why they bothered.
Thanks

I've got it woking on 3 machines with only a few initial glitches. (had to delete all prefs and rebuild sets on 2 out of 3).
That said, Extensis has posted this cryptic note on their support site:
Extensis & Mac OS X Panther:
Extensis is currently investigating compatibility
of our products with Mac OS X Panther and will
be posting compatibility updates as necessary.
Looks like it's not smooth sailing for everyone.

Hmmm, thanks.
Looks like that may be my problem then, I am getting other intermittent freezes, but I cannot seem to pin it on anything, mostly happens when the screen saver comes on or it is sitting for a while.
Guess I will wait to see if they come up with a fix. Is Font Reserve any better?

I tried Font Reserve with Panther, and activation for OS X apps seemed OK, but activation for Classic apps doesn't work. I put in a call to tech support (which is now Extensis, which bought Font Reserve), and if I remember correctly, the tech guy said they were planning updates to both FR and Suitcase in a "weeks" timeframe.

basically, whatever app you use, you're at least partially to utterly screwed.
1) font reserve: used to be good. just bought by extensis. they're currently "investigating" panther compatibility. winding your watch over there, guys?
2) suitcase: also owned by extensis. same problem as font reserve. rumor says the 2 products will be merging in the future...perhaps together they can manage to run correctly under panther.
3) font agent: problems with panther, but an update should be available in the next week or so. the only major extensis competition and looking better to me now that font reserve has been bought up.
4) fontbook: not a professional product. early glitches. hopefully better with 10.3.1, but it's too early to tell.
basically...whatever you use, you're gonna have problems for a while yet. unless you use jaguar. upgrade fun continues....

Suitcase 11 works fine for me except if I try to have it manage system fonts. Doing that will cause Suitcase to have the spinning beach ball of death.

Suitcase = POS.
There has GOT to be another way. Im waiting to upgrade to Panther until some of the bugs shake out, but Im hoping that the fontbook thing works better so I can finally delete suitcase forever...

Don't hold your breath with Font Book.
It is definitely for the consumer...and even then that is a stretch.
It is less than intuitive(makes suitcase look like a well designed interface)
Any fonts you want are then copied(or worse, moved) to your home fonts folder. Deleting is the only way out and it takes them out of your folders. I found out the hard way and had to wait 30 minutes while it added 3000 fonts to my system. then there was no reunion in Illustrator, fonts would not show up or even work, not to mention the mile long scrolling font menu to go through every face of every font I had. fine if you only have a few fonts you want to add, but certainly not a professional tool.
I cannot believe Apple is happy with such piss poor font handling in their uber OS. As a Creative Pro, it does not make me feel as if they are not focusing on their key market. I suppose it will come eventually, I wish Adobe hadn't cut ATM.

Suitcase runs stable in panther for me but if you click "add font" you can not select any onts, all fonts are greyed out. The only way to add fonts is to drag them in.

No problems here, but I'm set up, so I don't mess with Suitcase much.

5) MasterJuggler hasn't crashed on me yet or done anything untoward. Yet.
It's a shame and a bit of a silly thing they do not offer a test version, though.

That app looks cool, They do nead a test version though, Suitcase is well established as the Mac font management app. Getting people to switch to a new product with just reviews and screenshots is going to be difficult.
