If you get "black ink cartridge incompatible" after upgrading, you need to custom install the inkjet utility (but not the driver) from "hp inkjet 2.1 OS X.sit". This older version should be available via P2P sharing (in fact I know it is,,try acqlite or poisoned!!!). Unfortunately, this utility will not launch by clicking the utility icon in the printer setup utility but it can be found in: "Macintosh HD/Library/Printers/hp/Utilities" & can be run from there or dragged to the dock for future use.

Hope this helps

It's no joke when your printer rejects the cartridge it's been quite happily using for 3 weeks that's 70% full. It was still printing (after the "Allosx" fix but the utility wouldn't run. This had also happened to me under jaguar using a (professionally) refilled cartridge after I updated to HP's 2.2.1 driver. Re-installing the older 2.1 driver restored full functionality, but with panther, AFAIK, you need the 2.3.1 driver, which comes with the 6.24 "inkjet toolbox". If you custom install the 5.3 "inkjet utility" from the 2.1 driver you can callibrate the printer & check your ink levels. I'd earlier complained to HP & received a terse electronically generated email informing me that I had to use only HP branded cartridges. I think not!

It's a 3820 & I don't know about the GIMP driver. I might try it as I'm finding some odd results with reverse page order printing!
