Ran across an interesting quote fro the developer of Vue Scan:

Ed Hamrick says:
"Yes, Panther introduced a bug in the Adaptec SCSI driver. It removed support for the OSCSIDeviceInterface, which works on Mac OS X 10.2, and only supports SCSITaskInterface, which doesn't work with many scanners (the SCSI Sense buffer is too small)."

Maybe this is why so many people (myself included) had difficulty with Adaptec SCSI cards.

It is also extremely annoying that Apple would do this without saying so. What is the purpose? It disabled Apple-supplied SCSI cards on many older machines, Adaptec 2906 seems to have been the most affected. If it ain't broke, don't fix it Apple.
