Can someone confirm for me that Exposé doesn't show you any windows from Classic apps?

TIA

Sure can confirm. Expose does not show any windows from Classic apps. They simply fade away when you activate Expose.

OK, seems a bit of a shortcoming. Perhaps some sort of placeholder for Classic should appear (I realise it would be nign on impossible for the actual Windows to show up!)...

I know what you mean, but I (considering I don't use classic anymore) would rather see Apple spend that time working on some other upgrade.

Apple shouldn't be looking to the past, but rather focusing on the future.

Since Classic is part of OS X, Apple needs to support it.

I think the fact that there is a Classic is support enough.

They are trying to migrate us from Classic, and I think that's a good thing.

Totally agreed. The fact that they even improved classic in Panther baffles me.

I use classic for two thing: Outlook 2001 for Exchange and Monkey Island 1 (music isn't supported in SCUMMVM). I can live with those particular windows not being exposéd.

I'd throw that feature into the 'nice to have but not essential for me' pile. I only use classic for Outlook 2001 and I can live without having its window appear in Exposé. It'd be nice, but it's really no trouble for me click the dock icon or apple-tab to it.

I, too, would rather have apple working on improving OS X rather that spending time and resources trying to better integrate classic into an OS X workflow. Classic is a bridge and hopefully with a little more work on Apple's part we can leave that bridge behind.

hmmm...off-topic, but scummvm handles music just fine for me! It's even got multiple sound engines to choose from (in case apple's midi sounds weird, as it commonly does).

This sounds like a great solution... I doubt it would really take much time to implement... Since they already have expose written to hide the windows, it has to acknolege they are there. They likely could easily have the windows disappear and have the application's icon appear in place of the window, then zoom thoes like any other window... Sure you couldn't be sure which window you would actually be clicking, but at least it's a start...

I'm not completely ready. I have some FileMaker Pro stuff I still need to access, but FMP 4 works just fine. I'm not willling to buy an upgrade to replace software that works.

I expect that there are technical reasons for this - I'm not sure that Classic windows are composited in the same way that native windows are (I seem to remember there was a half-implemented hidden flag you could turn on in the windowserver to enable this, but it didn't work very well and was removed in later builds). You can't move classic windows as a solid block (only the outline), minimize them to the dock, etc.

It's not going to happen, folks.

yea. iThink they could do it, but they probably would have to make Mac OS 9.3. I've been wanting the to do that, but Mac OS 9.3 is simply a figment of my imagination - after all, Apple called Classic (OS 9) dead over a year ago.

I'm NOT saying Classis should go away... we still need it for all those 10000000000000+ CDs out there that have something that will only work in classic.

I just don't think they should spend any time "fixing" it. If it works, and I can use it for the few things I think I might still need it for, great.

But don't spend any extra time keeping it around.
