I created a bootable image with CCC (prepared for ASR) and placed it on a web server here at work. I then booted off the 10.3 install CD and went into the DiskUtility and entered http://<IP ADDRESS>/disk.dmg as the source and the local HD as the destination and clicked "restore" and it seems to do something for a minute or so and then errors out... long string of digits, different every time.

I can download the .dmg file using the same http address from any other machine that can hit the web server (Xserve)

Is this supposed to work in the way I'm trying? I'm trying to install a custom bootable image on a bunch of machines on our network and this seemed to be an easy way to do it, but it doesn't seem to work. Any ideas. (BTW, I don't have the ability to use a firewire HD!)

Thanks,

According the Disk Utility Help, the instructions can be found in the terminal by typing 'man asr'.

They instructions are lengthy but they made sense to me.

I know how to use ASR and doing it that way works great, although I wanted to know if anyone has been able to restore a bootable system from a network image using DiskUtility, instead of the command line.

Basically I want to be able to walk up to any machine in my office and boot off of the 10.3 install CD and use DiskUtility to restore either 10.2.8 or 10.3.1 from two different images stored on our web server. It seems like it should work, but I haven't found anyone who has done this successfully.

If nothing else, I will just make a BootCD that boots to the command line and use ASR, but if that can be avoided it would be preferable as I want this to be doable by anyone and some people are afraid of the command line!
