Hey everyone,

I am a switcher, and have a Panther install question:
I just bought a used iBook G3 800 with OS 10.28 that I want to upgrade to Panther.

Is there a way to do a clean install and just wipe the drive completely when I install Panther?

I have been hearing about a lot of bugs with the update, and was wondering if this would be a way to avoid them.

Any thoughts?

Start up from the cd by pressing the "c"-button.

Open Disk Utility from the file menu under Installer (next to the blue Apple icon).

Choose you harddisk and click "erase".
(for even better wiping, you can opt for "zero all data").

Install Panther and do the updating.

Welcome to the Mac!

I've upgraded 5 different Macs from 10.2.8 to Panther without any problems. As with all updates installing Panther has problems if there are already problems on your system.

That's why one should avoid bringing old problems into the new system. At least do a clean install.
But since there's nothing on his iBook, to be sure everything is wiped off, do an erase before installing, so you are sure there are no left overs.
