I've notiecd that if I type
% sudo chmod 777 .DS_Store
this will cause the Finder to remember views on that directory.

Anyone know if there is a way to do this to all the .DS_Store files on my drive at once instead of one at a time?

Apple, when are you going to fix this?!?

In Mac OS 9, it always worked - in OS X, it almost never works!...

... And what about, finally, a global view preference...?

... Which, maybe, is also consistently remembered...?

Go to the top of a directory tree that you want to change, and issue this command:

sudo find . -name .DS_Store -print -exec chmod 777 {} \;
