Hello, I wanted to give PureFTPd a try, and the ssl/tls thing looked good. I have recompiled several times, using standard methods and other methods, and I've made a certificate, the server won't start without it (if -Y 2 is set). So it starts, and if "-Y 0" then everything works, but if "2" then it says that connection is refused. Has anybody done this ?
And yes, ofcourse I did add "--with-tls" to the configure (/configure --with-everything --without-inetd --enable-osx --with-tls)

Hmm, they said that Transmite was suppose to work, but it didn't. I didn't manage to compile lftp neither, but "secureftp cli" from http://secureftp.glub.com worked !! Now it the question, is there a X11 ftp client for Mac OS X that works with ssl ? I don't like cli really you see

Johnny_B,
Have you got Pure-ftpd running at all in Panther?
If so, any chance of some hints on how to do it?
I have been knocking myself out for about a week now, following the docs to the letter and still I can't connect to the server. (Which seems to be running...)
I could really use some help.
Simon

Download the newest version. I configured it with:
./configure --with-everything - without-inetd --sysconfdir=/etc/pure-ftpd --with-certfile=/etc/pure-ftpd --enable-osx --with-tls --without-capabilities --with-pam --with-virtualchroot
And run it with:
sudo /usr/local/sbin/pure-ftpd -a 80 -c 50 -C 2 -E -H -k 95 -K -lpam -lpuredb:/etc/pure-ftpd/pureftpd.pdb -R -u 80 -U 133:022 -X --tls=1 -Z &
Check out ./configure --help for help with the first command (everything is on ONE line). And "man pure-ftpd" on the second one (everything is on ONE line).
My server runs standalone, and not with xinetd. And it uses PAM, and it's setup, but supports anonymous connections. It also allows ssl and not ssl (--tls=1)
Good luck. Sorry I didn't help you more, but this should keep you busy, witch is the reason for such "little" help.

Thanks for that, I'll keep it for reference.
I ended up using the latest version of `Pure-ftpd Manager' which works a treat.
Thanks again
Simon
