Hi.

Running Panther for a while now and I love it.

When I start my computer, it seems that the actually start up screen is quicker than under Jag, but now it takes longer to load once my desktop is onscreen. I have autologin set for my account. I get the impression that login time overall is not that much different than jag, but now, lots of the loading of system components takes place once my desktop is front and center. Sort of the way windows does it, where the "system tray" applications load once the desktop is onscreen.

this is not too bad, but I prefer to wait to see my desktop until everything has been loaded and ready to run. Im accustomed to seeing my desktop and getting down to business, not haveing to wait for my Menu Bar applications to load...

I just feel like its a trick to give the perception of faster load times. anyone else notice what im talking about??

Yeah I know what you mean.
The startup time for me is the same with panther as it was with jaguar but as you correctly stated the lagging happens on different parts of the loading process.
It was quite a shock to me to hear from nearly everybody that the startup time was incredibly reduced... I think people just get confused cause the desktop loads faster but it's not usable at all until after a few seconds.
