I have an external firewire hard drive (2 partitions).

Should I leave the "Ignore ownership on this volume" checked on or off?

I sometimes use one of the partitions as a backup system (bootable).

Is there a reason to enable the "Ignore ownership" option?

Ignore Permissions is for use when a drive is used between two machines (i.e. a firewire drive) - the permissions system is not valid on multiple machines (unless they are part of a bigger Mac OS X Server network)

i had to turn it on my user partition when my iMac's permissions got really screwed up...its fixed now, but I couldn't do anything w/ my account on that drive when I clean installed it.
