I have a wireless network set up in my home. It is created by a Netgear wireless router. I have 128-bit WEP enabled on it. Two days ago my PowerBook started acting up. My network would not show up from the AirPort pull down menu.
I added the network manually, by selecting Other... from the list and typed in my networks name and the password. That worked, and now my computer is fine.

However, my girlfriend has a PowerBook as well with an AirPort Extreme, and her computer would not connect or detect my network automatically. Her computer used to work fine, but it stopped working today.
I have to manually reenter the network name, and the password (128-bit HEX, pani in the butt) all the time to connect.
After I put her computer to sleep and wake it again, the connection is gone and the PowerBook cannot see it.

What can begoing on here?
I tried to select the join network automatically in the System Preferences, but that did not do the trick either.
Any ideas would help,

Thanks

t

Edit:
I enabled SSID broadcasting on my router which seemed to solve the problem. This was a pain in the butt though. I hope that this will help some people out with the same problam.

If network is set up as "closed network" , it will not broadcast it's name .... helpful to keep nosey people out. You can select "join most current network and it will remember settings!

SSID is required for the network to advertise its name. I don't think its much of a pain in the butt as much as it is general network setup. No idea why SSID stopped working.

Interesting, I just tried replacing my old Airport with a Netgear 802.11g wireless router as well. This was with a 12 in Aluminum, an iBook and a Titanium. The network seemed fine, but the Netgear would stop talking to wireless clients after 15 to 20 minutes. Only a reset of the router would reallow wireless connections. Downloading the lastest firmware didn't help.

Back to the store it went. A new Buffalo wirelss router is now working very well. No problems at all and I now can use 54 MBPS connections as well as my old machines.
