ATI Displays Updater 4.1.1
by: ATI Technologies, Inc.

• ATITVOut.kext fails to load with Mac OS_X 10.3
• ATI Displays shows an error stating ATITVOut.kext version is too old

One person on Versiontracker is reporting the Displays update zapped all his "Other" system preferences.

Several others reported the exact same result ("Other" pref panes vanishing). Not cool... think I'll pass on this one.

Backed up PrefPanes and installed. Nothing is different for me, and it didn't trash my other Panes.

Turns out that a fellow named Bruno at ATI pulled the first Display 4.1.1 update, rewrote it to stop trashing sys prefs and reposted the corrected one today.

From:

http://xlr8yourmac.com/

First Feedback on ATI 10.2.8 Driver Update - Note: Bruno of ATI wrote at appx 4:30PM ET today that the installers for the 10.3 and 10.2.8 updates (see links below) have been revised, but it may be best to wait until later tonight to ensure all mirrors at ATI have the updated installers. If you download the file - after unstuffing it look at the date of the ATI installer file - the original versions were dated Nov. 12th - the revised installers should have today's date - Nov. 17th.

Yeah, it seems like this is the kind of thing you'd use a .pkg for.

On the 10.2.8 update:

From http://xlr8yourmac.com/

Although the OEM models are not listed, the retail Radeon drivers (except for the control panel) are also usable with the OEM/onboard graphics chips of the same series. (For example the 9000 series use the 8500's drivers, and the 7500 mobility uses the original Radeon driver which is the chip it's based on.)
