I have a Mac G4/PCI graphics/400MHz/384 MB Apple Studio 17 display running from VGA port , no adapter required.
Have been running 9.2.2 and wanted to install OS X. I have CDs for 10.2.4 and intended to update to at least 10.2.8-- if I ever get that far. I should mention that my CD's originally shipped with an iBook (I bought them from a liquidation sale, I don't own an iBook) but I thought the installation CD's were generic.
I have installed 10.2.4 about 6 times now in various ways: clean install, archive and install, update. Makes no difference. Updated the ATI graphics driver for the RAGE 128 card (the one that came with the Mac), no firmware updates needed for the PCI G4. I have used disk utility, repaired permissions, and tried Micromat Tech and found no problems with RAM, the HD or file structure.
I resorted to using "Command S" to see if I could learn anything and this is message:
verifyCompatibility(): Extension "com.apple.iokit.IOPCIFamily" cannot be found.
get DependencyListforKmod(): Dependency com.apple.iokit.IOPCIFamily of com.apple.driver.AppleGossamerPE is not compatible or is unavailable.
If I boot in OS 9 I can see the OS X system files and there is a AppleGossamerPE folder in the Extensions. I am out of my depth here. What should I do next? Is this a PCI graphics card problem?
Any advice would be truly appreciated.
