I have the 17" Powerbook 1.33Ghz and the Flat Panel iMac G4 800mhz. Both work great in Panther but after the securtiy update (released yesterday) in 10.3.1 neither computer will sleep on their own if I set the Power Management to sleep after 1 minute from no activity. With the lid open on the Powerbook the screen will sleep but the computer will not.
Same for the iMac.
However the Powerbook will sleep with the lid closed.
Anyone with the same experience?

No, but ever since Panther my 17" PowerBook takes approximately 30 seconds to go to sleep once I slam the lid shut. Is really quite annoying since, if I need to take her somewhere, I have to stand there and wait...

My G4 iMac hasn't slept on her own since upgrading to Panther. Never had a problem in Jaguar.

My 12" PowerBook sleeps right away once the lid is closed. No problems there. I haven't yet had the lid open and stepped away long enough for her to go to sleep on her own, though... So I'm not sure whether insomnia is a problem there, too.

I had a problem with Panther going to sleep when I was using a MS Intellimouse Explorer with the intellipoint software installed but since I have unistalled the intelliopoint software and gone to a bluetooth mouse I haven't had the problem.

I have the exact same problem on my new 12"PB which came with Panther installed. I mistakenly posted it in the PowerBook forum. Didn't think it might be a Panther issue. WHen running on battery, with my screen open, only my screen goes to sleep but my computer does not. I have my energy saver settings set to autmoatic, which shows that the computer should sleep after 5 minutes of activity and the screen should not. But it is effectively doing the reverse. I am sure that it is not sleeping when the lid is open, because I get no pulsing light and no password request. It sleeps normally when I close the lid. I plan on calling Apple about it today.

I explored this issue further this morning and this is what I found. First of all, I turned off temeperature monitor in case it was continuously polling my system. Then I left the PB open and waited to see what happened. As expected, the screen dimmed then turned off (even though it's unchecked in the "automatic" preference for battery settings) but then after a minute or three, it entered sleep mode! So, still a bit weird but atleast it eventually goes to sleep.
