I'm using 10.2.8 and a couple of times lately I've copied jobs from CDs (made on OS9 Macs) that contain folders of fonts. Once on the hard disk the icon for the fonts folder has a padlock and according to 'get info' the folder is locked. But the locked button is greyed out, and when I try and move or delete the folder it says I don't have permission. Do I have to log in as root to get rid of these folders? And why does this happen?

Any help appreciated.

can the same files be unlocked on an OS 9 Mac? can you unlock them in Classic mode?

have you got File Buddy to try out with those files? maybe try an app called Xray, and see if that can do anything.

I repaired permissions etc, even logged in as root but couldn't do anything with them. I ended up booting into OS9 (because my crusty old G4 can still do this!) and they deleted fine just by dragging to trash. Very odd and slightly worrying...

You can fix them in terminal or use this tool if you prefer clicking on icons and having a nice GUI. http://macchampion.com/arbysoft/
