Previous posts on this forum (prior to Panther's launch) had stated that 10.3 would be able to read NTFS formatted drives. I was recently at a friends house and we were going to swap files. We both have the same exact external firewire HD, but mine is formatted in HFS+ and his is formatted in NTFS. Knowing that his XP machine would not be able to mount my drive, I decided to try his drive on my machine.

I was only presented with a dialouge box that stated that the drive was unreadable. I searched VersionTracker for any available software that would allow me to do this and I was able to find a program (Not sure of the name.) Well, I received the same message (Well, I wasn't expecting much as the last release was well before the Panther lauch.)

Any clues on how to get panther to read an NTFS volume or is this something that is just going to take time...

-Thanks.

hrm strange. I hooked up a NTFS disk to Panther an it mounted the disk without issue.

Unfortunately its Read Only which limits the usefulness here.

If u get 'MacDrive 5' and install it on the XP PC then connect the Firewire drive to the PC it will mount the HFS+ disk and offers read/write....i do it all the time works nicely.

Yes, MacDrive 5 works very well. It's not expensive at all and doesn't appear to cause any problems on WinXP.
