I am using a TiBook 667 Combo with 10.2.8 and am at an internet cafe. They have a DHCP server to issue IP addresses, but my Mac doesn't seem to work with it.

It times out and uses a "Self-assigned" address that of course won't work. I can make it work by manually entering the IP info using a free IP address in the correct range as well as DNS and router info.

An iBook running 10.2.8 works fine in the same cafe. The reverse problem exists in another cafe (iBook not working, but TiBook ok).

What would cause this?

I don;t know either, but I have had the same problem since installing panther. At my friend's place I just unplugged the cable modem and it worked afterwards. I think i've see other people with the same problem.
