Is the Apple firewall in 10.3.1 enough
or should Brickhouse or another firewall
program be run as well ?

The Apple firewall is 'ON' and everything
is included - ticked - is that safe enough?

It depends....what are you wanting to block specifically?

Everything - smooth and silent like a nimble
badger on ice.

Cheers Gorickey for support, I have been
running Brickhouse and after a clean install
of Panther I was just thinking if it was safe
enough not to install it.

I noticed that the OS X Firewall was disabled after I upgraded to Panther. Then I found this advice buried in the Apple Support website at
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107786
"The Mac OS X firewall may no longer be available if you perform an upgrade installation of Mac OS X Panther. An "upgrade" installation is when you install version 10.3 over an earlier version, such as 10.2.8, without first erasing the disk..."
So be warned - your firewall may not be active.
Otherwise the change to Panther seems to have gone smoothly.

Ahem… each item 'ticked', is ON. As in… those ports are open and usable. And vulnerable.

Keep the firewall on, and unused services off.

This is where most people make their mistake. They leave ports open that they aren't using. I close everything down and open them up as I find I need to use them.

Even AFP.

Although secure, it could be bruit forced.
