I want to convert tons of pics, so I decided to install ImageMagick and write some nifty shell scripts that will do the job (mainly decreasing the .jpg-size form 1 M to 300 k or converting .tiffs to .jpgs).

So I used Darwin Ports to install ImageMagick (which is easy enough). After successfully installing it and the needed libraries (for tiff, jpeg, etc.) fresh from the source code, I wanted to test it.

I used one of my sample images and wanted to convert it from .tiff to jpg:

Code:
[manatawny:~/Pictures/Lieblingsfotos] max% convert scan20030924_161122.tiff test.jpg convert: TIFF library is not available (scan20030924_161122.tiff) [Invalid argument].
Or converting a .jpg to a .tiff:

Code:
[manatawny:~/Pictures/Nagoya fu\314\210r Anfa\314\210nger - konvertiert] max% convert test.jpg test.tiff convert: No decode delegate for this image format (test.jpg) [Invalid argument].
What's wrong?

I am using Panther 10.3.1.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

I can't directly address your issue, but I can say that I also was just installing IM. I found that the binaries from the main site were a pain to install.. I set all the environment variables, and it still complained... into the trash...

You'll see the other thread where I had trouble getting the new Fink 0.62 working, but now that it is, IM installed without a hitch.

Its possible you just need some libraries for tiff/jpg.

But I did just do a jpg->jpg convert (change size/quality) with my Fink installed IM.

Cheers,
Mike

Well, I have seen DarwinPorts getting the source and compiling those libraries for me (that's why I chose DarwinPorts).

So I think those libs are installed.

root@manatawny ~ >> port installed
The following ports are installed:
bzip2-1.0.2
g77-3.3.2
gd-1.8.4
gnuplot-3.8h.0
ImageMagick-5.5.6
jpeg-6b
libpng-1.2.5
pine-4.58
readline-4.3
tiff-3.5.7
XFree86-4.3.0
So I think the necessary packages were installed. Argh. On my FreeBSD system, the ports collection worked better (always a pain to look for the right versions of the dependencies).
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.
