Hi, after the upgrade to Panther, I'm not getting junk mail moved to the junk folder.

I've checked all the settings, and it's set correctly, I've been manually telling mail that this mail is junk, but so far it's just not remembering any of it.

Is there a problem here that I don't know of, or can someone suggest a way to get the junk going again.

Should I just switch back to learning mode for a while. I thought that by telling mail that a piece of mail was junk, it would continue to learn, even if it was in automatic. Is this not the case?

Thanks,

J.

Do you have any sort of "custom" Junk filtering rules from 10.2 still? If so, get rid of those and see if you notice any difference...

No, the only rules I have setup are to move mail to particular folders after it's received. I just rely on the regular panther junk mail.

Mods, just realised I've posted this in the wrong forum, please move it to software.

Sorry, and thanks,

First, the junk mail check box is in the prefs now, so make sure that button is check to move junk mail to junk box. Also, of course make sure junk mail is enabled. Then click on advanced and make sure the only rules are the same 3 from the first window, the default 3 rules. For some reason, custom rules throw off the filtering. You may get some extra junk for the first few days, but after a week or so, the filters do a great job.

the same thing happened to me.

when activated, the "built in" junk rule in the Junk pref pane would mark the messages as junk but leave them in my In box.

i had to go to the Rules pref pane and create a rule (i called it "Junk") which sends junk mail to the junk folder.

This is exactly how I have it set.

Then you aren't experiencing mail's normal behavior. How about dragging the mail prefs out of the user/library/mail to the desktop and launching mail fresh and see if junk mail is getting sent to the right mailbox with fresh prefs. If it does, you have bad prefs, if it doesn't then something else is wrong and maybe you should reinstall mail or hope there's a fix coming.

you could also try resetting the junk rule - sometimes the training, if carried over from Jaguar, didn't convert well, and you're better off starting fresh.
