hi,
just set up fedora on an old pc. i would like to connect to it from my pismo using apple X11 in full-screen mode with complete gnome GUI. is this possible?
i know how to connect to the box via "ssh -X ip.ip.ip.ip" and can run apps in the apple wm, but short of installing gnome on my pismo, is there anyway to use the GUI from my linux box?

i guess i am answering my own question 'cause i figured it out. i simply turned on XDMCP on my linux box.
on my pismo, i opened a terminal (not Xterm) and typed:
X -query ip.ip.ip.ip
X opened as a terminal program (with the black screen icon) and not as apples X11. i got the graphical remote login screen and was able to login. am in fact writing this from konquerer.
cmd-opt-a gets you back into osx. and you can switch back using cmd-tab or click on the dock icon to get back.
pretty cool...

Very cool. I was going to suggest vnc over ssh if you didn't have X11 for OS X, but you've got it.

woah woah woah. What is this thing you can do? If you have a unix/linux machine running xfree86 you can just put that screen on your mac screen with that X -query command? I knew about sshing in and forwarding the display. What's the difference between the two? (And besides the fact this sounds much cooler)
thanks!

basically, i am using my mac screen as a display for the linux machine. all changes i make in linux (e.g. to the filesystem) occur on the linux box. a GUI-ified unix terminal...
the difference is that with your technique is that you can alter files on the local (mac) harddrive. my way you can't (mainly because i don't have them networked yet).
the linux box must support XCMD. and i think that you must need an X11 installed (i have the apple X11).
