I'm running the Little Snitch, which tonight began telling me that the process "host" is requesting connections via UDP (?) on port 53 to various sites.

One is 4.4.4.2 or something like that (I can't copy/paste from the dialog window) and another site targeted is in genuity.net's domain... something about vsnc or other.

Any clues? Is it a coincidence that my network connection has been acting up tonight, and when I got home today, my router-WAP had completely reset to the factory defaults (I did have a power outage...)?

Thanks!!

Thanks. So, "host" is making DNS queries. What's "host"? Am I catching some devious spyware or something here, or just a standard DNS call from a benign and proper process?

How do I figger that out?

Thanks!

I believe that "host" is a benign and proper process. Nothing to worry about. Little Snitch will catch just about anything.

host is a Unix process that does host lookups via DNS. As to why it is being run if you're not running it, I don't know. Presumably some application is performing DNS lookups using host externally, instead of the standard DNS routines.
