Hi all,

does anyone know of a way of bringigng the misc-fixed fonts from Linux to MacOSX? I especially like the 6x10, 6x12 and 6x13 fonts and would like to use them in editors and in the terminal instead of Monaco.

Any ideas?

Many thanks in advance,
_nmk

You can bring True Type fonts from Linux over, but not the bitmapped X11 fonts. However you can use those fonts in X11 applications on the Mac. Just not in native Aqua apps. (i.e. BBEdit)

If you don't like Monaco (and I don't blame you) a great font to use is Lucinda Grande Console. It comes with Windows and most Windows fonts can be copied over to the Mac.

A number of Lucida fonts are already hidden in the Java Framework folders, no need to copy them from Windows.

Stink different.

To use the Linux .bdf fixed fonts you first have to convert them to truetype.

If you still have access to your linux box, heres a link explaining how:

Some more resources:

This guy:

Has an amazing set of font links.... for the purposes of this discussion you might check out:

Also if you are bringing in fonts from Linux you might have to convert from a variety of font fonts... you can convert to true type or open type...

Here is a list of true type resources including some useful converters like Fonttootf:

I still have my linux machine and just checked - the fonts are in .pcf format. Any chance of converting that to truetype?

I looked around but there is really little info on pcf fonts.
