Hey Guys,

I've never had this problem with Jaguar, but Panther does it.

I seem to be hitting a certain key combination when typing quite fast and can't figure out why I enter some sort of "blocking" or "mark block of text" mode in mail or in my editors in the terminal app.

The result is that my desktop is locked or frozen in this mode and I can't get out (except to force a reboot by holding the power button). If I move my mouse up, the text mark goes up the document or scrolls up, down ... then marking goes down. I can't change focus on other windows, activate the dock from hiding, or anything.

Any help much appreciated.

I had this same problem, maybe about a week and a half ago. It was in Mail.app. I don't know what I did to cause it, but I do believe I was typing at the time and all of a sudden, I was stuck selecting text just as you describe. I didn't have to reboot to get out of it though. I think I might have hit escape to get out of it; might have done a force quit. I cannot remember. I tried to reproduce the phenomenon, but was not able to, so I just ignored it. Sorry, I guess this doesn't do much to help you out. I just thought I would let you know you are not the only one who has experienced this.
