I´m experiencing a few too many "unexpected quits" with certain applications under Panther, and I want to check if a clean install will solve some of my problems.

HOWEVER, I do not yet want to go through the hassle of doing a clean install of my original system.

Therefore I´d like to check a clean install by installing Panther on my third partition, or perhaps my second.

Is this possible? Can I install Panther on another partition than the first?

Also, will the OS get confused on startup when noticing there are two installs of the "same" system? Any other potential problems that might mess up my experiment?

No Problem!

I have Partitions for :

OS 9.2
OS 10.28
OS 10.3.1
and many more when I plug in firewire removable drives!

You can select which one to boot from:

[malvolio]

This is possible, and very easy to do.
The system won't get "confused". At the end of the installation process, it will automatically reboot into the new installation. After that, you simply use System Preferences > Startup Disk to tell it which partition to boot from.
Oh yeah, when you first start up from the new partition, Software Update will offer you the 10.3.1 update and whatever else you may need.
