Screen Grabs disappear

	When I use command-shift-4 to snapshot a portion of my screen the resulting "Picture 1.pdf" on my desktop disappears before my eyes probably 90% of the time. When it does work the picture is often of just a few pixels wide. Any ideas? (10.3.1 PB 12") Sorry if this has been covered, I did a search for grab, capture and snapshot but found nothing.
