Please help...I cannot install Panther on my Pismo 400. Every time I try it ets to the end of writing all the needed files from CD 1 to the hard drive and them says there were errors during the installation, please restart and install again. The problem is that it won't get past this point and each failed install renders the PB unusable.
I originally tried an upgrade from 10.2.8 and that did not work and it would not boot after that so I tried a new install, same result and even as a last resort tried a format and install, all with exactly the same results.
Pismo has 768mb ram and 20gb fujitsu hd which has been running 10.2.8 perfectly.
The install CD's have worked fine on my desktop G4.
I am sure one of you has the answer.
Thanks

I had no problems on my Pismo with only 192 MB ram... There might be a RAM incompatiblity. I would try pulling some RAM and trying again, assuming you've vetted the HD completely already.

i'd zero the hd just to make sure, but wow, that's some strange problems. if, by chance, you're using a burned copy of the disc, i'd re-burn and try again.
i've got panther running just fine on my pismo, and it installed perfectly. nothing to worry about. flatten your hd.
good luck.

did you check your hard drives for any problems? you can do this from panther's installer in the file menu, go to disk utility and verify the disk.
also, maybe it's your install cds that are messed? see if someone else has a copy or contact apple even, they'll help you.

can't say panther's runnig like a dream on my pismo, coz i've had loads of sh*te with it. but it did install without a hitch.
methinks your installer CD is corrupted or scratched. have you tried running disc utility on the CD to see if it's OK?

I had that same problem when I installed Jaguar on my Pismo. Zeroing the drive fixed it, so I would try that as some previous posters have suggested.

I may be wrong, but i thought the Pismo's couldn't offically handle 512Mb ram chips? I know they work under 10.2 - but maybe Apple has changed something in Panther?

they are perfectly usable; i am enjoying mine right now!
also, panther is a big leap forward on my pismo 400; visibly faster, leaner than 10.2.
if wiping the hd doesn't work, check your cds for a scratch; you may need a replacement...
