OK, here's the skinny- I'm taking my Wallstreet PB back down to OS 9 (from X) so that I can run my OS 9 tabloid scanner and wifi card with my airport, I just bought a 15" 1.25 Ghz PB as my main workhorse, so the Wallstreet will be my scan/internet station, light duty. Unfortunately, now that it's formatted in X it's not letting me boot into my OS 9 CD. I'd like to do a clean install in 9 if possible, here's the error I get when I boot into the OS9 CD: Finder does not have sufficient memory to boot into CD, please restart!?!?!?!
This is crazy! Is there something built into X that prevents you from going back to 9, is it because it's a Wallstreet? I can boot into my Jaguar CD all day long, so I don't know about the finder not having enough memory. I know there's a way to force it to do it in the terminal, but I don't know how.
Anyone know how to force your mac to boot into a boot CD?

Try zapping the PRAM (command-option-P-R at boot time).

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

Thanks for the tips,
I've been doin' the hold C on startup but it just doesn't care! I need to go above the law here, and force it to boot into 9 somehow...
I've got a 40gig hard drive with about 30gigs free and 512MB ram.
I did a clean install of of Jaguar (since that's the only CD i can boot to) to see if I could correct the problem then try and boot into 9, but no luck. I just don't understand how it could not have enough memory to boot from a CD???

If you're ready to wipe the drive, start up from the Jag CD. From there, go to Disk Utility and erase the Disk, but make sure "Install Mac OS 9 Drivers" option is checked. Reboot, and then try booting from the OS 9 CD. Hopefully that works.

The obviuos way, inserting the CD and set it to be the startvolume in the preferences won't work either I suppose?

Is this OS9 CD the one that came with the machine? ...or what?

Have you booted the Wallstreet off it before? Do you have the original restore discs?

Reboot and hold option; see if OpenBoot gives you an option for the CD.

Yes, setting the boot CD as the startup disk in preferences gives the same results.
In both cases (holding down C too) it will actually get to the white CD wallpaper screen and will start to load the extensions when the error box pops up. So It wants to boot into the CD but something happens to prevent this.

Cipher13, Yes, this has been my boot CD since I bought the disk (I think from Macmall in 1999) until I switched to X a year ago. The Wallstreet has no restore disk, it was a demo model at CompUSA (cheap). Can I force my computer to use more of the memory in finder, I know I have plenty.

try this. after it starts booting from the cd, hold the shift key to stop the extensions from loading.
