iMac G3 DV Special Edition 400Mhz 256Ram OS 10.2.8

Had trouble with printing and faxing to HP PSC 900. When jobs were sent to the printer they would automatically stop. Could not restart print jobs. I had to delete all the jobs sent to this printer.
After this happened a few times I re-booted.
When the spinning gear disappears and the screen turns blue, the Mac OS X screen with the progress bar appears on the screen for a split second and then leaves me with a blue screen and the spinning beachball.
The ball stops spinning after a few minutes and leaves me with a blues screen and a movable pointer but nothing else.
I tried booting off the OS X install disc and running disc utilitys repair disc option but it found nothing wrong.
I then tried booting off my disc warrier 3.0 disc but I guess this is not a bootable disc??
As far as I can tell, my problem stems from the HP drivers for this printer. I have found HP OS X software to be buggy in the past but this one has worked fine until today.

Can anyone help???

If you want to be sure of the cause, boot your computer with verbose mode on: hold down cmd-v.

You should be able to start up in a safe mode by holding down the shift key, and then deleting the offending print drivers if you're sure they're causing the problem.

I tried what you suggested. I didn't see any error messages and I could not get it to boot into safe mode.
Any other suggestions??
