Okay, so since I have installed Panther I have been getting what I call "soft freezes." The cursor is useable but nothing else in the OS is functioning. I cannot switch applications, I cannot open folders, I cannot move windows around, nothing. Sometimes it comes to a hard freeze but either way I am still forced to restart.

Has anyone else had this? I never, never got this with Jaguar or lower, just since I have installed Panther. And it happens about three or four times a month. When I had Jaguar installed, the system never crashed or froze up.

This happens here when I have a CD in the drive and haven't used it for some time. I don't know if this is the reason for it, but I encounter this strange behaviour quite often: Man, I wan't a grown up kernel panic!
Scarcely pausing for breath, Vroomfondel shouted, "We DON'T demand solid facts! What we demand is the total ABSENCE of solid facts. I demand that I may or may not be Vroomfondel!"

I posted details of something similar in

http://forums.macnn.com/90/mac-os-x/188004/trn-hard-locks-10-3-a/

I logged this bug with Apple (thru the ADC bug report tool), and have gotten some follow-up questions from them about it.

I never had this prob with Jag either.

This either started after I installed 10.3.1 or I upgraded something else in the same time period.

It happens when I surf the web, run iTunes and BitTorrent at the same time. What applications are you running when it happens?
