About half the time a downloaded .dmg comes in labeled .dms. If I change the s to a g it opens fine. My question is why does it D/L that way? Yes, I have completely eliminated SpeedDownload from my system. Thanks in advance..dms?

Yep...

Each week their is at least one ".dms" thread on MacNN, and it's always been Speed Download II as the culprit...

How do I fix it? remove the speeddownload prefs?

Thats all I could find left from the install.

As far as I know...you have to get rid of EVERY instance/file of SDII on your system...I don't have it, so I haven't a clue where it splatters things...

Man, I have tried every combination of searches to find any Speed Download crap on my system. Someone on another forum said to reinstall Safari; it helped them. I'll grab the install disk and drag a new Safari 1.1.1 to my apps. and see if that helps.

Did you search for "YazSoft" by chance? I guess the program buries some sort of plugin in the Library as well...

Uhhhh... my stupid. Instead of trying to find all the junk, I just D/L a new Speed Download and ran the Uninstaller that comes with it. Seems to be working OK now. Sometimes you can't see the forest for the trees. Thanks for all the help.
