Does anyone know how to make .ps files and the like automatically load up the appropriate program in panther (i.e., launch X11 and then gv loads up file.ps)? I've found various hints for this which worked in 10.2, but don't seem to be working for 10.3.

Are you saying you want GhostView to load and display a postscript file? Panther does that already when you double-click on any .ps file.

AFAIK .ps files are not executables.

But if you want to open a .ps file (or any file that Preview can open), type open myPSfile.ps and viola.

That's how I use gnuplot, I don't like the X11 behavior on my system, so I just choose postscript color as output and open it.

Panther converts .ps files on the fly, so I don't even have to include ps2pdf myPSfile.ps anymore. Life's good after all.

Yeah, I know I can use preview in panther, but I don't know what's going on with the renderer, but it looks bad in preview, while in gv it looks super. So I want the .ps files to automatically load gv by double clicking on them. Is this possible in panther?

Try MacGhostView. You might like it.

Sometimes a ps2pdf myPSfile.ps ; pdf2ps myPSFile.pdf ; open myPSfile.ps helps.
