My dad and i are sharing our cable connection throught a router. 2 days ago, he recieved a mail saying that he could not write to someone because he was a spammer. I don't know what happened, but it look likes someone is using my ip adress to spam..
This is what SORBS ( fighting spam by listing exploitable servers) told me...

Did he send the email to more than 10 recipients? Sometimes mail servers won't allow a large number of recipients and kick it back as spam....

There's nothing you can do, other than request another IP from your ISP (or that they take the current one out of the DHCP pool).
Spammers are notorious for stealing the services of other people and getting them shutdown as a result.
They're the reason the stupid concept of a "blacklist" exists. For example, you can't run a mail server (like just a personal one for your family) on any cable modem system in the country, because all those addresses are assumed to be used by spammers and are therefore blacklisted.

I run an e-mail Server at home on my cable connection and it works just fine, the only problem i had was once i used the AppleMailServer for SMTP in Jaguar Server and some dood took over my server as an open relay, I made it onto the blacklist. A quick change to my sendmail configuration worked great in stopping the problem.

Not Just Another Bogus List ( njabl.org) can run tests on your server to determine if you're running an open relay.
Telnet to rt.njabl.org on port 2500 from the machine you want to test.
No point in getting a new IP address from the DHCP server if you're still running an exploitable mail server.
